Biography: Carla is an adjunct faculty member in the Industrial Design program at The Cleveland Institute of Art. Carla graduated with a degree in Industrial Design from Central School of Art and Design in London. She then received her MBA in Marketing from Cleveland State University. Carla has worked as a designer and as an adjunct faculty at the Cleveland Institute of Art for over 20 years. She is the founder and principal partner of Design Interface Inc. an award winning design consultancy specializing in industrial, graphic, package and web design. She teaches Ergonomics + Design and Marketing + Design.

Design and the business of creating for clients has been Carla Blackman’s mainstay for the past 30 years. Design influences include her early employers and mentors Viktor Schreckengost, Hugh Greenlee & Roy Hess. More recently she has been influenced by teachers Robert Moyer and Jeff Suntala.

Her process follows a path of inspiration, usually through photographs from her travels. Then on to sketching, from there to painting. Her favorite painters are: Monet, John Singer Sargent and Edward Hopper.
